Instead of simply clearing land to build housing...
developing a model where affordable housing and
open space co-exist in the city.
Croft Place Townhomes

Shelter is a basic need, not a luxury. A growing number of families share a common denominator: poverty and isolation. The working poor simply cannot afford Seattle's spiraling real estate prices and rents.

"Many of us are struggling in the current economic climate, and we recognize that your diligent efforts to provide affordable low-income housing are doing a great deal to keep our community the humane, decent place that it is."
- Robert Shampain, Pigeon Point Neighborhood Council

A home, a community, a safety net
Croft Place is more than quality, affordable housing. Its design encourages community building among residents through support programs, a central courtyard and play space.

In a society that often sees environmental sensitivity and open space preservation as unaffordable luxuries, Croft Place stands out as a model of sustainability, built to high standards of energy and water efficiency, air quality and materials.

The project
  • 21 permanently affordable apartments for large families, including seven families transitioning from homelessness
  • A 1,600-square-foot common building for resident support services, social events, and informal childcare
  • More than four acres of preserved green space and wetlands
  • A model of environmental sustainability

Location: 6700 block Delridge Way SW
Construction began July 2004

"That you are preserving four acres of open space is wonderful. Open space for animals is increasingly scarce, and animals that use our beautiful Duwamish River or Longfellow Creek need a place to live and raise their young."
- Cecile A. Hansen, Duwamish Tribe
